For those of you who aren't savvy to the language teachers and students use and know, here is a running list of key words and terms you'll see and hear throughout the semester.

KEY:
RHA=read, highlight, annotate (make notes/respond on the text)
Annotate = make notes/respond on the text (summarize, react, connect, question)
Learning Log = a reflective "journal" entry about current learning taking place for students
Exit Card = a quick formative assessment completed by students to give me a glimpse of their knowledge/thinking
Protocol = a facilitated process used for discussion and/or exploration of a text or problem

Forum= an on-line threaded discussion
Wiki= a website that students create and edit with my facilitation
Group = a forum of discussion with a limited number of students
Assignment = a task to complete
Lesson = an activity to complete/participate in
Rubric = a guide used to score student performance
Formative Assessment = an assessment as students form knowledge (a way for me to identify readiness, connection, interest, understanding, etc.)
Summarative Assessment = a "final" assessment of material knowledge and understanding (a unit test or project)
Journal = an informal writing; mostly private thoughts but sometimes made public
